Ted and Magic Mike Light Up the Weekend Box Office

Audiences lined up to befriend new releases Ted and Magic Mike at the box office.

Ted, the debut film from Family Guy mastermind Seth MacFarlane, surpassed The Hangover's record for best opening for an original R-rated comedy, Box Office Mojo reports. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis and a very crude bear voiced by MacFarlane, the film grossed an estimated $54.1 million in its opening weekend to take the top spot.

Another new R-rated film, the Channing Tatum-led male stripper film Magic Mike, grabbed $39.1 million to come in second. Last weekend's No. 1 film, Brave, nabbed $34.01 million at No. 3. At No. 4, Madea's Witness Protection premiered to $26.3 million. In fifth was Madagascar 3 with $11.8 million.

Rounding out the top 10: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (No. 6, $6 million); Prometheus (No. 7, $4.9 million); Moonrise Kingdom (No. 8, $4.8 million), Snow White and the Huntsman (No. 9, $4.4 million) and the new Chris Pine-Elizabeth Banks dramedy People Like Us (No. 10, $4.3 million).
