Courtney Love Blames Lynn Hirschberg For Kurt Cobain’s Death

Courtney Love is still railing against Lynn Hirschberg over the 1992 Vanity Fair profile that described her as shooting heroin while pregnant.

"Do you know what it's like when Lynn sets out to do a hit piece?" asks Love in an interview with TheFix.com. "As a writer, wouldn't it be your worst nightmare if you drove someone to suicide? I hope so. Because that's what Lynn Hirschberg did to Kurt, all right? She humiliated and emasculated him. She sent him over the edge. She deserves most of the blame for his death. Do you really want to challenge me on that fact?"

(Love's Hirschberg rant is included in part two of Maer Roshan's no-holds-barred interview with the grunge legend. Yesterday The Fix posted part one, where Love discusses saving Kelly Osbourne and getting high with Sting, among other things.)

In Hirschberg's article, "Strange Love," it was revealed that Love went on a heroin binge that overlapped with her pregnancy; when the issue of Vanity Fair hit newsstands, newborn Frances Bean was temporarily removed from her parents' home. Love has carried a grudge to this day; she's written a bootleg song called, "Bring Me The Head of Lynn Hirschberg," and threatened to beat her with Quentin Tarantino's Oscar statuette.

"Yes, it's true, I used heroin in the first three weeks of my pregnancy -- but so f--king what!? I didn't even know I was pregnant at the time! I also took a few puffs on a cigarette when my belly was out to here, but most of those nine months, I walked around with nicotine patches all over my body. When you have a baby inside you, you're not going to do drugs or something stupid."

Love isn't the only musician to hate on Hirschberg. Last May, the rapper M.I.A. famously tweeted Hirschberg's phone number in a fury over this story in the New York Times.

"She is famous for doing hatchet pieces on other women and b--w jobs on famous Jewish men," Love declares. "She's constantly falling in love with celebrities like Rick Rubin, Quentin Tarantino, Harvey Weinstein, and Jerry Seinfeld. ... She's a monster -- that's all I can say. I don't have hate in my heart for anybody, but she's more responsible for my husband's death than anyone."

When Roshan asks whether she'd be happier with her life and career if she had not been so self-indulgent, Love responds: "Not necessarily. I've been able to stop using when I've needed to. ... But the fact is, men always get a much easier time about their problems than women do. Just look at Keith Richards. That guy has done more drugs in his life than women do. But he gets celebrated as this cool survivor, while I'm branded as some shameless skank."
