Shakira Invites Fans to Her Virtual UNICEF Baby Shower

Shakira’s throwing a virtual baby shower and she’s inviting you to attend!

The judge on the upcoming fourth season of NBC’s “The Voice” and her boyfriend / father of her unborn child, 25-year-old FC Barcelona soccer star Gerard Pique, both posted a beautiful new pic to their respective social channels Wednesday morning that showcases her very pregnant belly being cradled by the shirtless stud.

“The countdown begins!” they posted in both English and Spanish on their respective Facebook pages, hers with 59 million fans and his at 6 million. “And we'd like to invite you to participate in our world baby shower joining efforts with UNICEF.”

The pic links out to the web site Social Toaster, where fans can “learn more about child survival, (and) donate inspired gifts.” On the site, fans can donate to whichever country they’d like to help.

A video shares a message from the couple. “As you all know, we will soon be welcoming our first child into the world and to celebrate his birth, we’ve organized a virtual baby shower in association with UNICEF. In lieu of receiving gifts for our baby as with a traditional shower, we would like to offer support for babies who live in conditions of extreme poverty throughout the world. Thanks to all of you, they will receive in the form of inspired gifts, therapeutic food packets, vaccines and rehydration salts which will help save the lives of hundreds of thousands. We'd like to thank you in advance and we’re very happy to know that we can count on your support.”

Shakira, 35, has long been involved with UNICEF, being appointed a Goodwill Ambassador in October 2003. According to UNICEF’s website, “Shakira is the founder of the Pies Descalzos Foundation, which provides displaced and underprivileged children in her native Colombia with access to quality education,” and, in her ambassadorial role, “has expanded her child advocacy efforts on the global level. Through public service announcements and her participation in fundraisers and other events for UNICEF national committees, she has increased awareness of UNICEF’s work in areas such as HIV/AIDS, education and child protection.”
