Reese Witherspoon selling Ojai ranch for $10 million

Life has changed a lot for Reese Witherspoon over the last 18 months. The former single mother (who divorced fellow actor Ryan Phillippe in 2007) got married again last March and is expecting a baby with her new hubby, agent Jim Toth, any day now. (It will be her third child, his first.) Now, with her family expanding, Witherspoon is actually downsizing her real estate portfolio, putting the Ojai, California, ranch she purchased in 2008 on the market for a cool $10 million.

The property, known as Libbey Ranch, has made plenty of headlines recently. It was the site of Witherspoon's star-studded wedding and was featured in Elle Decor's August 2012 issue. Over the summer it also became a temporary retreat for her friend and "Like Water for Elephants" co-star Robert Pattinson during the media frenzy that ensued after his girlfriend Kristen Stewart admitted to cheating on him.

"As soon as I drive through the gate, I relax. The air is fresh, the phone isn't ringing, you can't access e-mail. Time slows down," Witherspoon told Elle Decor about the home. "Within an hour I'm lying on that couch taking a big fat nap."

In addition to the ranch's history and architectural style =(more on that in a moment), realtor Billy Rose, whose Los Angeles-based real estate firm The Agency has the listing, explains that the ranch's location — the bucolic village of Ojai, with its population of 8,000 and 85-mile proximity to Los Angeles — is a big part of what made it so appealing to a celebrity.

"One of the things Reese liked about it, it was just a normal life there. People don't hold you in this high celebrity regard, people aren't trying to photograph you all the time," he says. "It's a small town and you're part of the community."

While a $10 million home may be on the higher end of the Ojai market, "it's an extraordinarily large piece of property, a highly published home, and it's got Wallace Neff as part of its legacy," according to Rose.

Acclaimed architect Neff designed the ranch's main house, which has four bedrooms and three and a half baths, in 1923 for glassware magnate Edward Drummond Libbey. In addition to the main house, the estate, which sits on nearly seven acres, also includes a swimming pool, barn, and horse paddock as well as multiple guest cottages, which contain an additional five bedrooms.

Witherspoon and her family also share the ranch with donkeys, pigs, goats, chickens, and four dogs. Rose wouldn't comment on whether the 36-year-old actress, who used the ranch as a second home, is leaving Ojai or has plans to buy another property in the area. And as for whether the next buyer will inherit any of the ranch's furry and feathered friends, Rose says: "That's another conversation."
