Whoopi Goldberg To Host 2008 Tony Awards

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Tony Award winning star of stage and screen, Whoopi Goldberg, will take center stage as she hosts the 62nd Annual "Tony" Awards on Sunday, June 15 live from Radio City Music Hall, Access Hollywood has learned.

"I'm very excited to be hosting the Tony Awards," Whoopi Goldberg said in a statement released to Access. "I love Broadway and I'm thrilled to be doing anything for the first time. I'm gonna have a blast."

Whoopi Goldberg is one of a very elite group of artists who have won the Grammy, the Academy Award, the Golden Globe, the Emmy, and a Tony, the latter for her producing work on "Thoroughly Modern Millie," in 2002.

"Whoopi not only brings with her an immense amount of star-power, but also a charm and humor that is all her own," said Tony Awards producer Ricky Kirshner.

Kay R, I agree wit U 100%. Whoopie is and always will B a GREAT individual. She is always so TRUE 2 herself and 2 others. I really miss her on the BIG SCREEN. Ever feel down and depressed?? Rent one of her movies and U won't remember wat U were depressed about. Two of my favorites were GHOST (Patrick Swayze & Demi Moore) and FATAL BEAUTY with the yummy Sam Elliot. Whoo-H

Whoopi,I am one of your biggest fans,but last week Elizabeth was trying to simply say color and gender are not what is important,it was the most qualified! You and Sherry jumped on her and in the heat of the moment your truth came out. How important it was for the black people not to mention Sherry's son to have a Black role model. It was as if you could care less if Obama was qualified.
