  U.S. Mortality rates are NOT higher than other countries by a long shot....the population of the US compared to mortalities is much less than countries much smaller with mortalities. People get confused by the numbers, obviously the US has the largest number of citizens thus increasing those numbers.   I laughed when I read Johnson county mom's comment. Women die in hospital births all the time. More importantly, the unnecessary medical interventions they chose cause harm and death to their babies. The US has a very BAD morbidity and mortality rate in childbirth. Whereas those countries who champion natural childbirth and midwives and a lot of home births have a MUCH better record.
