Amid all the glitz and glamour of the red carpet, a very unlikely source was responsible for one of the standout moments of Oscar night - Gary Busey.
Millions of viewers witnessed the awkward-to-say-the-least encounter, as the veteran actor interrupted Ryan Seacrest's red carpet interview with Jennifer Garner and Laura Linney.

On Monday, Seacrest talked about the bizarre incident on his Los Angeles radio morning show.
Seacrest explained that he was beginning to chat with Jennifer and Laura on the live Oscars red carpet show on E!, when all of a sudden off-camera, the trio (and the world) heard someone yell "Ryan! Ryan Seacrest!"

"I didn't see it. I heard it. And I thought, 'Do I have a fan here?'" he recalled on his KIIS FM morning radio show, "On Air with Ryan Seacrest." "I'm talking to the girls and Gary Busey says, 'You! I've been looking for you for years!'"
Being the consummate professional, Ryan tried to maintain control of the situation, which was being broadcast live to millions around the globe. But even for Seacrest, it was on odd encounter.
"I was a little thrown, I've gotta be honest," Seacrest said. "I've been through a lot - Super Bowl, 'Idol' - but never this."
So why exactly was Busey looking for Seacrest?

The TV personality/radio host gave Busey the chance to explain himself on his morning show. And while Busey took to the mic to share his side, after hearing his explanation, things didn't exactly appear any clearer than they were before.
"Well, what I wanted to do was, when I first saw you working, I said, 'Who is this guy?' And I said, 'Oh God, this isn't going to work.' And then you captured me. You are to me, when you're working, an innocent champion of honesty," Busey told Seacrest. "Your heart has a way to embrace the truth in your delivery without looking like you are reading a script. Everything looks spontaneous. What spontaneity is - spontaneity comes from an invisible idea that is there before the creation began. And you have that naturally, so I just wanted to pay you a compliment. But I didn't know you were in the middle of an interview, I was just moving through there."

So there you have it - sort of.
Unfortunately, Seacrest wasn't the only one accosted by Busey on the red carpet, as the "Point Break" star also got up close with Jennifer Garner - perhaps, a little too close.
After taking Seacrest by surprise, Busey turned his attention to Jen, hugging the actress and even kissing her on the neck, which judging from her reaction afterwards, wasn't entirely welcome.
"Busey took a bite out of crime. He was McGruff [the Crime Dog]. He took a chunk out of Jennifer Garner's neck and she look terrified," Seacrest said. "I was thinking, 'Ben [Affleck, Jennifer's husband] is going nuts somewhere right now.'"
Yet through it all, Seacrest said he knows Busey only had the best of intentions - regardless of how it appeared.
"By the way, I've gotta tell you, he's nice. Maybe too nice," Seacrest said of the actor on the morning show. "And his timing is off."
