Rumer Willis: Surviving In Young Hollywood

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (August 17, 2007) â€" Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's oldest daughter Rumer may have spent some Hollywood nights hanging with Lindsay Lohan and pals, but when Access Hollywood's Billy Bush paid a visit to the set of Rumer's new film, he found a very grounded 19-year-old who is very aware â€" and very cautious â€" of the Hollywood spotlight.

"I see a lot of situations that seem to me to be lacking of a self respect and a self value where girls get drunk and they just kind of fall over each other," Rumer told Billy. "Unfortunately when you know you're growing up and you are in this business, you don't really have the same ability to make mistakes and have it not be really detrimental."

Billy visited Rumer on the set of her new film "House Bunny," but it was a special day for the young actress â€" her 19th birthday.

"I'm hearing this from a now 19-year-old today. There are people who are 21 and 22 who will say they're so young still, but I don't think that's an excuse," Billy said.

"I learned very quickly what kind of person I didn't want to be," Rumer replied.

"What kind of person is that?" Billy asked.

"Just somebody who doesn't take their job seriously," she said.

Candid. Self assured. And a young woman figuring out the celebrity game â€" so far, managing to avoid the pitfalls that have plagued young Hollywood.

"It's really easy to say, 'Look people are doing something that I don't like and I don't want to be around. I'm gonna go,'" explained Rumer.

So where did she pick up this outlook along the way?

"Honestly, it's been kind of making mistakes and figuring them out and having a lot of really great people as my mentors," she added.

Those mentors include her Hollywood powerhouse parents â€" Demi and Bruce â€" as well as step dad Ashton Kutcher.

Rumer revealed that she's coming to terms with the side effects of fame, which includes the paparazzi just waiting for her to lose her balance.

"I hear a lot that as soon as they put themselves out there, they're free game," Rumer said of the paparazzi's take on young stars. "It's kind of dehumanizing."

In fact, it was less than a year ago when Rumer encountered her first taste of the stalkerazzi with her party pal at the time Lindsay Lohan.

"It's really invasive and uncomfortable," she told Access at the time.

But as she now comes into her own as a celebrity, Rumer has become the target for the money shot. But it's not only the paparazzi taking aim, it's also the new generation of celebrity bloggers.

"Do you read the blogs?" Billy asked her.

"I try not to. I used to a lot and it was really hurtful," she said. "There's obviously a lot of people that want to say that I'm doing some kind of train of my parents and that I have some big trust fund. And it's so easy to judge people and put them down when you're not looking at them in the face."
