ODD COUPLE: E! ONLINE's MARC MALKIN reports that Kanye West has signed on to perform at the Emmy awards in a skit inspired by music competition shows. An "insider" tells Malkin that West will be joined in the number by "The Office" star (and Emmy nominee) Rainn Wilson. Reps for West, Wilson and the Emmys did not comment to Malkin. According to THE NY POST'S PAGE SIX, Kanye canceled his scheduled appearance on "The Today Show" last week and his "TRL" appearance yesterday. A rep for West told Page Six the "Today" cancellation was a "creative decision." "Kanye is doing 'Ellen' and 'Jimmy Kimmel.' And he will do 'SNL,' " a rep reportedly said.

A 'PIECE' OF BRITNEY: EW.COM posted sample lyrics from a new Britney Spears song, "Piece of Me," which her reps reportedly say may be the 2nd single from her upcoming album: ''I'm Mrs. American dream/ Since I was 17/ I'm Mrs. Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous/I'm Mrs. 'Oh my God, that Britney's shameless'/ I'm Mrs. 'Extra, extra, this just in' / I'm Mrs. 'She's too fat, now she's too thin.'''

FRANK FATONE: Speaking of lyrics, "Singing Bee" host Joey Fatone joked that if he was a contestant on the karaoke-themed show, he would "suck," USA TODAY reports. "I would probably know enough to get through with the skin of my teeth," he reportedly said on a conference call. "But there are many songs I look at the card and think I would never get through this."

HUG IT OUT: Charlize Theron confessed she felt nervous at first about working with Tommy Lee Jones on their new film, "In the Valley of Elah," UPI reports. But a tip from actress Frances McDormand helped her get over feeling "intimidated." "(McDormand) said: 'Just give him a big hug every time you see him. It just drops his guard,'" Theron reportedly recalled.

AFFLECK'S CHOICE: Ben Affleck is prepared to take steps to prevent his film "Gone Baby Gone" from being released in Britain in November, THE TELEGRAPH reports, due to its story similarities to the real-life missing child case of four-year-old Madeleine McCann. "We don't want to release the movie if it is going to touch a nerve or inflame anybody's sensitivities," Affleck reportedly said.
