more Patti Page shot to fame crooning hits including "Tennessee Waltz" and "(How Much Is) That Doggie in the Window?" and became one of the bestselling singers of the 1950s. Like Taylor Swift today, Page was known for blending pop and country sounds, but, by the 1970s, she had shifted mostly to country. Despite her early success, it wasn’t until 1999 when she won her first Grammy after recording a live album at Carnegie Hall in New York City. The Oklahoma native spent her last four decades living in San Diego and it was there where she passed away at a nursing home on January 1 at the age of 85. Just prior to her death, Page, who was suffering from several ailments, posted a message for fans on her website. “Although I feel I still have the voice God gave me, physical impairments are preventing me from using that voice as I had for so many years,” she wrote. “It is only He who knows what the future holds.”
