Stars spend a night at the ballet

It was a night of dance and fashion at the New York City Ballet fall gala at Lincoln Center in Manhattan on Thursday. The event was actually the brainchild of NYCB board member and fashionista Sarah Jessica Parker. The actress tapped designer Valentino Garavani, who retired from his fashion label in 2008, to create couture-level costumes for the evening’s performances. Parker, a former ballerina, said the idea came to her two years ago when New York Fashion Week moved to the Lincoln Center complex. “I thought that was possibly very fortuitous, because I know that fashion tends to have a younger audience, if we could somehow marry the two ideas,” Parker (in Valentino Couture) told the New York Times.
