The National Geographic Channel’s documentary “Doomsday Preppers” looks at some so-called survivalists, people who at this very moment are prepping for the impeding end of civilization. Those who are fearful aren’t just random people either – there are famous ones, too. Mel Gibson – who has a high level of interest on the topic having directed “Apocalypto” – has been known to go on rants and he did so in September 2006 while talking about the similarities between the Mayan society and America at the Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. "The precursors to a civilization that's going under are the same, time and time again,” he said. “What's human sacrifice if not sending guys off to Iraq for no reason? ... I just wanna draw the parallels. I don't wanna be a doomsayer, but the Mayan calendar ends in 2012. So have fun, boys and girls!"
