Blackpool's Illuminations Light the Night Sky

Every year, the British seaside town of Blackpool attracts more than 3 million visitors. Many of them come to witness the famous Illuminations that started in 1879 with a display of eight arc lamps. About 100 miles of party lights, 200 miles of wiring, 5,000 floodlights and more than a million lamps make up the display, which stretches about six miles along the town promenade. This year, the display will run August 31 - November 4.
