    It's been a rocky road for Alec Baldwin and his daughter Ireland Baldwin, but from the looks of their embrace in NYC on Wednesday, you'd never know it.

    The father-daughter pair were all smiles as they hit the streets of NYC's Meatpacking District, arm-in-arm, while dressed for the winter weather.

    But things weren't always so sunshine and smile-filled for the actor, 53, and his daughter with ex-wife Kim Basinger.

    In 2007, while in the midst of a nasty divorce with Basinger, Baldwin left a voice mail for Ireland, then 11-years-old, telling her "You are a rude, thoughtless little pig. You don't have the brains or the decency as a human being. I don't give a damn that you're 12-years-old or 11-years-old, or a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the ass who doesn't care about what you do."

    Baldwin's behavior caused a court to ban him from seeing Ireland while Basinger, 58, was granted primary custody, with the actor retaining visitation rights.

    In September, Baldwin came to his 16-year-old daughter's defense when a tweet she sent out around Jay-Z and Kanye West's hit song, "N***** in Paris" caused her followers to accuse her of being a racist.

    "Anyone who thinks that quoting the title of that song is racist is a disgrace to the human race," Baldwin tweeted.

      Did she really catch flack for quoting "N---- in Paris"? Does that mean all radio stations with white DJ's that play that song are racist too? Are white people not allowed to listen to that type of music?? If people don't want that word to be used, I highly suggest that EVERYONE quit using it.

        Absolutely. You can't have it both ways and every word has to do with connotation. You can say a word and have it mean something good or bad or it can just be a description. E.g. Am I a racist if I say something like, "In history, some Americans called black people n****** as a slang derogatory term." We are so crazy with the PC stuff that we can't even think for ourselves anymore.

      Are you kidding?! She tweeted the name of a song that Jay-Z and Kanye West came up with themselves and then was accused of being a racist?! Pathetic. Those people are idiots and need to get a life or better yet advise the black community that perhaps that word is not appropriate to be using in nearly every rap song that exists.

        I agree! It is kind of bizarre that only a black person can use the word. If it has such a negative connotation, they should not use it either. Black people saying it promotes it as a word you can say. After all we are equal.

        I'm black and I don't approve the use of that word by ANYONE (including black people). You'd be surprised at how many Black people share the same opinion as me. There's this whole controversy around the use of the word. Unfortunately, it's not the right kind of people getting the attention. So I agree: Hip-hop artists should stop using that word in their lyrics!

        When Ireland was younger probably Kim brainwashed her against her father and Alec was upset by not getting visiting days with his daughter. Now, that Ireland is grown up she has her own mind and see his father's love.

      he should have come out about his alcohol/drug habits before - this could have explained his disgusting comments to ex-wife and augered better for the eventuality that kids grow up and yes, in the journey towards 'media savyness" which she won't be able to avoid -- she will need his 'expertise'. short sighted to make early nasty comments to an 11 yr old: kim can't be all that bad as a mother if she's produced a level-headed girl with her own mind and her own talent to be as she WILL be!!
