Earning $87 million, it debuted in the No. 1 spot and became 20th Century Fox's best-ever non-holiday bow at the U.S. box office. (It also toppled the first two
X-Men films -- but not the third.)

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past -- starring
Jennifer Garner and
Matthew McConaughey -- debuted at No. 2 with $15.3 million from 3,175 screens, mirroring the $14.8 million bow of Sony's
Made of Honor on the same weekend a year ago.

Obsessed, fell to the third spot with $12.2 million. The thriller starring
Beyonce Knowles and
Ali Larter raised its 10-day total to $47 million.
