She's the woman other women love to hate. Despite the fact that Angelina Jolie jets around the world as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador, her detractors love to dish on the millionaire movie actress, mother of six and wife of Brad Pitt -- one of Hollywood's hottest actors.
Given her A-list pedigree, it is surprising how many women are annoyed by Angie. Or is it? Here are some possible reasons why females find Angelina so irksome.
Too friendly with married co-stars: Playing the part of Mrs. Smith of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith," Jolie may have taken her role too literally. She married Mr. Smith (co-star Brad Pitt) after the movie was filmed. The only problem was, Pitt was already married to someone else when he and Jolie made the movie. Even worse, the someone else was popular "Friends" star Jennifer Aniston. "She's a homewrecker," comedienne Chelsea Handler, a loyal Aniston ally, said of Jolie.More recently, rumors surfaced that Vanessa Paradis, wife of Jolie co-star Johnny Depp ("The Tourist"), is not happy about her husband's too-friendly relationship with his on-screen romantic partner.
No gal pals: Unlike Brad Pitt's previous wife Jennifer, whose social life is portrayed by the media as one big pajama party, Jolie seems to shy away from female friendship (or pals period). She told Sanjay Gupta of CNN, "I don't have a lot of friends I talk to."
She's a celebrity's kid: With the recent backlash against celebrities' kids getting a free ride to fame, the fact that Angelina is the daughter of famous actor Jon Voight could count against her. She co-starred with her dad in "Lookin' to Get Out" when she was just 7-years-old. But whether she rode her famous father's coattails to celebrydom is debatable, especially since Jolie and Voight have an on-again-off-again relationship.
Chooses bad movies: Despite the fact she is one of the most highly paid actresses in Hollywood, Jolie's Metacritic average for all of her movies is 48 (out of 100). That means more than half her movies were considered subpar by critics. By choosing such movies as "The Bone Collector" and "Lara Croft" to star in, wrote Metacritic's Mike Thompson, "Jolie (seems) content to be just another pretty face, playing the token female in predictable thrillers and action movies."
Too-luscious lips: Unlike women who get injections or implants to make their lips fuller, Jolie likely comes by her larger lips naturally. Jolie wannabe Nadya Suleman, a.k.a. the Octomom, reportedly copied her idol's lips. But Jolie's bee-stung lip look has lately taken a lashing, as evidenced by the negative barbs Taylor Armstrong of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" received from viewers. Even when they're real, many women view fuller lips as fake.
Whatever the reasons women take jabs at Jolie, her fans could argue that maybe they are just jealous of her. Not only is Jolie rich and accomplished, she is also married to one of the most handsome and successful men in Hollywood. What's not to like?
