Apparently Justin Timberlake has at least one pretty impressive and famous fan. That fan's name is Sir Elton John. In a recent interview, the "Tiny Dancer" singer announced that a biopic about his life story is set to go into production soon. Who would Sir Elton like to see in the all-important central role? Justin Timberlake, of course!
Says Elton about it, "... he played me before in a David LaChapelle video of "Rocket Man" and was superb." From what Elton himself is making public about the film, Justin would have a pretty fun time working on it. The British rock icon has said that instead of expecting a straight-forward account of his life, fans should look forward to "... a surreal look at my life... more in the manner of a 'Moulin Rouge!'" Timberlake's acting career has really taken off in the wake of his breakout performance in last year's critical and box office hit "The Social Network," and the fact that Elton John would hand-pick him for this film means he's a legitimate force to be reckoned with.
Here are a few reasons why Justin Timberlake should definitely take the gig playing Elton John:
If It Worked for Jamie Foxx and Joaquin Phoenix... - For his portrayal of legend Ray Charles in "Ray," Jamie Foxx took home an Oscar in 2005. A year later, Joaquin Phoenix was nominated for his performance as Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line." This should show Justin that if he puts the work in, it can pay off with big career-changing dividends, and that the Academy is not afraid to reward biopics about legendary musicians.
He Can Handle the Material - Elton was about as diversely talented an artist as one could be. He'd sing songs that were love ballads, he'd sing soulfully, and he'd sing up-tempo rock and roll classics. If there were a singer today who could effectively portray just how talented Elton was through his own gifts, it would be Justin Timberlake.
Elton Wants Him To Do It! - There is no bigger endorsement or honor than being asked by a living legend to step into their shoes. What that means is that Elton trusts Timbo explicitly to play him with dignity, respect and enormous talent. It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and hopefully one that Justin seizes on.
It'd Be a Big Lift To His Acting "Cred" - By now there can't be any doubt that he's a talent the likes of which is not very common. He sings, he dances, he acts. However, a role like this could catapult him into real respectability and credibility as an actor. Sure, he was fantastic in "The Social Network," but he can carry an entire film, and one that's about such an iconic person? Nailing this role could give him access to the top notch directors and producers that could send his acting career into the stratosphere.
