The Black Eyed Peas' former front woman, Stacy Ferguson recently sat down in a one-on-one chat with Oprah Winfrey, revisiting the uncomfortable cheating scandal that swirled around hubby, actor Josh Duhamel in 2009. The media has a way of latching onto cheating stories and milking them for all they're worth. But for some reason, rumors of Duhamel's dalliance with an Atlanta stripper named Nicole Forrester were slightly watered down. Why does it seem the media brushed right over such a story?
Josh never really 'fessed up.
Perhaps it's because Josh never publicly admitted to the affair that the stories were quieted so quickly; Duhamel steadfastly denied the allegations and deemed Forrester's story silly. Sure, we had the dancer's detailed account of her tryst with the "Turistas" actor. She produced text messages of their chats. Forrester even passed a polygraph test. Many of us believed her, with just cause. While the "evidence" makes it difficult to call her a liar, her tale still appeared to go in one ear and out the other.
Ignoring the Dirty Deeds
While Fergie seems comfortable addressing this hurtful event in her marriage to Josh, she doesn't directly reference the indiscretion. "When you go through difficult times, it really makes you stronger as a unit," Fergie admitted to Oprah about the 2009 incident. However, the "My Humps" singer speaks on dealing with the annoyance of cheating rumors instead of the pain caused by her husband's alleged actions. Are fans to believe that mere rumors of adultery could hurt more than actual cheating?
In any case, on the eve of the lovebirds' first anniversary in 2010, they renewed their wedding vows in a top-secret ceremony. Though plenty of Hollywood couples reaffirm their commitment when times get tough, some wonder why there was such urgency to renew theirs if Josh did nothing wrong. Nonetheless, it seems that their private ceremony also helped soften the blow.
So Many Scandals, So Little Time
It's quite possible that in comparison to 2009's juiciest celeb stories, Josh Duhamel's tale of woe simply wasn't big enough to create a stir. By October of that year, we were fully engrossed in other celebrity fare. Rihanna and Chris Brown's violent saga continued to play out in tabloids. The Gosselin clan publicly imploded right before the death of Pop King Michael Jackson. And Tiger Woods' sexual exploits could have overshadowed just about any story tossed at gossip-hungry fans. These tales and others made it incredibly easy for Josh and Fergie's troubles to go unnoticed.
