Whoopi, Sherri Shepherd To Join 'The View'

Access Hollywood - July 26, 2007 3:18 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 26, 2007) - "The View" is about to get a lot bigger with reports that Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd will join the panel.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Whoopi, who had been tipped for months to fill a "View" seat, will join the show's new season. Many originally expected Goldberg to become an official member following the early departure of Rosie O'Donnell in May.

In not-too-surprising news, Sherri Shepherd, the African American comedian who has eloquently shared a spot on the show off and on over the last several months, has also been reportedly offered the job.

The Times says ABC is in final negotiations with the two women who would add more diversity to the all-white panel. The current "View" hosts are Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The new panelists are expected to be announced publicly next week.

ABC however would not comment on the news, telling the Times, "We have nothing to announce right now."

It is so obvious that Elisabeth doesn't know HOW to LISTEN and HOW to RESPOND. It would be great if she can be coached on how to have a conversation/ discussion along with others, then she would be a "better" host. Her character or more so, her personality is portrayed as a snooty, know-it-all, annoying, irritating, immature BRAT! It's like listening to a Chihu

  • Welcome to Whoopi and Sherri. I've been pulling for Whoopi. She has always been a favorite. Love Barbara and Joy. Elizabeths problem is maybe her youth. She doesn't know when to let go of the topic! I suppose she brings balance to the show?????

Give me a break...you guys keep talking about Elizabeth and getting rid of her because of her "view" point. Is that not what the show is about?? different views. What do you want a show with all the same opinions? Yeah, that would make a great discussion panel...

The View would be so much more enjoyable to watch without the presence of Elizabeth. She contributes nothing to the show beyond her highly skewed and misguided attempt at being the voice of the conservative far right. The main problem: she just doesn't seem to understand regular topics of conversation. When she continually interrupts the flow of conversation, it turns out she has nothing to say.

The addition of these two vocal funny women who bring new perspectives to "The View" has to be good! Both Whoopi and Sherri are not afraid to push their views, yet they both are tolerantly respectful of different viewpoints. Elizabeth will continue to be the voice of conservatism, the foil against which the others play, and Joy and Barbara, as usual, will be wonderful.
