Whitney Houston to be laid to rest Saturday in NJ

Whitney Houston fans, Lawanda Howkins, left, and Melanie Braggs honor her memory at a candlelight vigil in Leimert Park in Los Angeles on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012. Houston, who ruled as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, erratic behavior and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown, died Saturday, Feb. 11. NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Pop star Whitney Houston's funeral service will be held Saturday in the church where she first showcased her singing talents as a child.

The owner of the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark said Tuesday that Houston's funeral would be held at noon Saturday at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark.

The 48-year-old Houston died Feb. 11 at a hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif. Officials say she was underwater and apparently unconscious when she was pulled from a bathtub.

Her body was returned to New Jersey late Monday.

Houston was born in Newark and was raised in nearby East Orange. She began singing as a child at New Hope Baptist Church, where her mother, Grammy-winning gospel singer Cissy Houston, led the music program for many years. Her cousin singer Dionne Warwick also sang in its choir.

On Monday, mourners left flowers, balloons and candles for Houston at the wrought-iron fence around the tall brick church, which sits near the edge of an abandoned housing project near the train line leading to New York City.

Saddened. Not sadden. I'll bet if you could SPEAK properly, you'd have no problem writing correctly. We ASK questions, not AX them. I am sorry for your LOSS, not LOST. It's not that difficult.

Just because she was famous still doesn't mean she wasnt human, she was someone's mother, someone's daughter, someone's wife, friend, niece. May she rest in peace and her family find comfort during this difficult time

It seems that a lot of people need to review the "Comment Guidelines" - the first one asks that you be considerate and respectful. A beautiful, talented woman is dead. Why don't you stop and think (if you can) how you would feel if you were reading these remarks about your mother or daughter or anyone that you know and love.

I have a truly serious question here. I dont know if anyone has ever noticed this. Let me start with Mrs Etta James God bless her soul. She died of an illness not a drug overdose or suicide yet her death faded away without as much baloney as this dead drug addict so called diva. Why is it that celebrities that die from suicide or overdose are glorified and idolised upon their deaths while those that die a natural death are simply given an oh well he she died without the baloney being given to her and that other plastic faced dude what's his name. The news and the media will beat a dead horse with this drug diva for months to come. It's is bad enough that we had to hear about that other dude for months now we are going to hear about this drug diva for months. It is sort of a bad thing that America talks so much about drugs and prevention yet those that die from them are glorified and idolised instead of being used by the media as an example of how a life can be ruined forever to prevent others from falling in the same trap. I am not trying to offend anyone with these comments just speaking straight up I apologise to anyone being offended by speaking the truth. Anyway rest in peace say hello to Janis, Jim, Jimmy, and elvis.

Lets wait and see and perhaps take bets on how many MORE "headlines" they come up with. As it is, it went from "Whitney Houston Dead" to "Whitney Houston Dead IN BATHTUB" and a dozen or so more permutatations. I'm waiting for "HOUSTON'S FAMILY DEDCIDES ON CLOSED CASKET" or "WHITNEY HOUSTON'S SONGS PLAYED AT FUNERAL" or maybe "THOUSANDS SHOW UP TO MOURN DEAD DRUG ADDICT".

This crap really is beyond the ridiculous. The media will do and say ANYTHING to keep a story on the front page. The question is ......WHY?

Please remember that no matter what you think of her drug/alcohol abusing problems she was also someone's love. I agree her talent was wasted by her abuse of so many different type of chemicals but she was a dependent individual long before her years she just didn't know it. She proved it by getting together with Bobby Brown who is THE REASON FOR HER DEATH! Although Whitney may have chosen something else to be dependent upon.... the beginning of her end was the day she met BOBBY BRONW!! I hope he feels guilty for his main part of her downfall...
God will now have the pleasure of her talent along with all the angels!
