Following shootings at the Washington Navy Yard that killed at least 13, including the suspected shooter, the White House is postponing a Musica Latina event where Gloria Estefan and Ricky Martin were set to perform on Monday evening.
The White House said in a statement that “In light of today’s tragic events at the Washington Navy Yard and out of respect for the victims and their families, Musica Latina will be postponed to a new date.”
Aaron Alexis, 34, is suspected of killing at least 12 in a mass shooting on Monday morning. He was killed in a gunfight with police. They are currently looking for a possible second suspect.
A new date for the concert, which was intended to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month and was being taped for PBS’ “In Performance at the White House,” has not yet been set.
President Obama also ordered flags to be flown at half-mast until sunset on Friday.
