This season The Voice brought us sequinced casts, mariachi singing, a pale pink cockatoo, Cee Lo in a wicker hat singing with Kermit about the hate crimes that occur when your skin is gree and of course, Domo.
It's hard to believe that in three short weeks this wild, crazy season will be over. Last week we said sad goodbyes to Cody Belew and Dez Duron. I can honestly say that I was quite surprised that these two guys were sent home. I just assumed that Cody's rendition of Somebody To Love and Dez's cover of Bieber would get America salivating.
I, unfortunately, was wrong. But this doesn't stop me from making assumptions yet again. This week I compiled my personal scores for the Top 6. I based their numbers on YouTube views, iTunes sales, conversations I've had with other viewers and my own personal opinion (which doesn't mean much obviously). So without further ado, here are my speculations as to who has a good chance of winning this thing.
Best Performance: More Than a Feeling
Lackluster Performance: Over
Terry's Scottish charm has captivated the nation. He is the embodiment of classic rock; of feathers, bell bottoms and Farrah Fawcett. His undeniably pure tone reminds us of something we once had musically, something we've lost. However his sound is not new or inventive, so we shall see how Terry fares after this week.
Chances of Winning: 67%
Best Performance: Stand By Me
Not So Good Performance: Put Your Records On
America loves a white boy that can sing soul. What makes Nicholas so great is that he doesn't look like he should be singing Marvin Gaye; he looks like he should be performing Hall and Oats or The Doobie Brothers. America loves him, however his sales pale in comparison to other contestants.
Chances of Winning: 54%
Best Performance: Listen and Vision of Love (with Amanda Brown)
Uh-oh Performance: Scream
Trevin can sing anything. I mean ANYTHING. His voice can get crazy high and cause the hair on our arms to stand up. America loves his humility and the fact that he was able to prove his eighth-grade teacher wrong (she told him he couldn't sing. I wonder if she watches him on TV and laments her miserable life). But Trevin's not selling young and fresh music. This is a concern.
Chances of Winning: 81%
Best Performance: Toxic and 7 Nation Army
Weakest Performance: Cough Syrup
Melanie, is by far, the most inventive and imaginative contestant this season. She's quirky, bold and self-assured without being arrogant. She doesn't have the strongest voice (she's no Whitney Houston) but she has given some of the most unforgettable performances this season.
Chances of Winning: 89%
Best Performance: Over You
Cringe Worthy Performance: Payphone
A lot of my friends accuse me of being biased towards Cassadee The thing is: Cassadee is a star. It's undeniable. And her YouTube views and iTunes sales reflect that. My concern is that Cassadee may have already peaked. I hope this isn't the case.
Chances of Winning: 93%
Best Performance: Dream On and Vision of Love
Please Never Do That Again Performance: Spectrum
Amanda gets the Dark Horse Award. Even Cee Lo underestimated her and lost her to Adam. Amanda seems to get better from week to week and seems to have tons of tricks at her disposal. But what kind of artist is she? Is she rock and soul? Or is she R&B with an edge? The fact that I don't know this yet is a bit disconcerting.
Chance of Winning: 93%
Once again, all of my nonscientific research in compiling scores for these contestants can mean absolutely nothing. Hell, I thought Avery would still be around. The Zaniest Week of The Year
Last week, I interviewed with some amazing outlets: Celebuzz, The Hollywood Reporter, Carson Daly's morning show, Lifestyle and Charity Magazine and Hollywood Life. I also traipsed from Orlando to Indianapolis to downtown LA (where I fangirled over Angela Basset) sharing my story for World AIDS Day. I ended the week packing for my insane show with Jennifer Hudson at the House of Blues in Chicago.
Thank you Fam for loving me, supporting me and always encouraging me. The first single, High from my upcoming EP is out tomorrow on iTunes. Your. Mind. Will. Be. Blown. Tweet me and let me know what you think about it @JSquidward!
