LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- "The View" is denying a report that co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck was told to not wear a t-shirt supporting John McCain.

On Thursday, the celebrity gossip Web site Defamer.com claimed after a conference call between ABC and "View" producers, it was decided that Elisabeth could not wear her pro-McCain shirt on the show.

An alleged "View" insider source told the Web site, "The number of complaints - phone calls and emails and even negative studio audience comments regarding the T-shirt were staggering, and the network does not want it happening again. How she got away with wearing it on-air is anybody's guess, but it definitely will not happen again."

However, the report is not true, according to a rep from the daytime gabfest.

"Barbara Walters and Bill Geddie, executive producers of 'The View' don't think it's appropriate to wear tee-shirts (sic) endorsing either candidate, but would never forbid any of the co-hosts from expressing themselves," a rep for "The View" told Access Hollywood. "Additionally, Elisabeth designed her 'Great AmeriCAIN' T-Shirt. She is a designer by trade and has shown it twice before on-air on 'The View.'"

The rep also denies there was ever a conference call discussing the t-shirt in question.

T-shirt scandal or not, one thing is for certain; viewers love all of the drama and hot topics. "The View" was ranked first in its time slot for the fourth straight week.

The show is called the view so its fine with me if the views of the close minded and clueless are represented. I think the whole gang gets a little too excited. The next thing you know they all are jabbering at the same time and any discussion disintegrates into a Springer show and we get to see how money doesn't always equal class. Why would any political party would desire her suppo

i agree with those who see nothing wrong with her wearing this t-shirt. telling her she can't would be discriminatory. what's next? telling them they have to change their hairstyles, can't wear certain colors, etc? the others can wear obama t-shirts if they want! what's the big deal?

  • Nobody should be wearing a pro-anybody shirt on this show. Lizzie has got her head so far up Palin's a$$, she thinks it's her hat. Kick her a$$ to the curb where she came from and belongs. Faux tv is waiting for you dear.
