VIDEO: Keira Knightley Gets Beaten in Shocking Domestic Violence Ad

Us Magazine - April 2, 2009 1:05 PM PDT
Keira Knightley is brutally attacked by her boyfriend in a shocking new domestic violence ad for the charity Women's Aid.

The two-minute clip, which debuts April 6 in movie theaters, opens with the actress, 24, heading home from a long day of filming.

When she gets home, her boyfriend verbally and physically attacks her because he thinks she's having an affair with a costar.

As the camera pans out, Knightley lays on the floor as the beating continues. The location is revealed to be an empty film set.

"Isn't it time someone called cut?" the ad says.

Atonement director Joe Wright directed the spot, which Knightley says she volunteered to do because "while domestic violence exists in every section of society we rarely hear about it."

Adds the actress, "Domestic violence affects one in four women at some point in their lifetime and kills two women every week."

Any man that abuses a woman, or mistreats her, is not a man. There's simply is no excuse for it, except for self defense of course. I love women, and feel that they should be cherished. God made women to be a man's equal, not better, not less. And HE commands us to honor and love them. And really, when you think about it. Isn't this the right thing to do? Have a pleasant da

I hope everyone knows that Keira Knightly didn't REALLY got beaten...it was an ad, a filmed example. That's all. She's fine. But I'm proud of her for putting it out there. More women need to realize how terrible it is and if any of you are getting any kind of abuse done to you then you need to get OUT of the situation immediately!

Wow.. that should be powerful! I hope it gets through to both abusers and those who are abused. If it helps only one person then it's done it's job! If it helps more, that would be fantastic!
