Usher’s stepson declared brain dead after being hit by Jet Ski

Usher's in the headlines again, but this time not for his messy divorce with Tameka Foster. He's actually helping Foster, whose 11-year-old son Kyle (called Kile by some reports) was in an accident on Atlanta's Lake Lanier at about 3:25 p.m. ET Friday that left him brain dead. Usher's stepson was one of two kids sitting in an inner tube being pulled by a boat that were hit by family friend Jeffrey S. Hubbard, 38, on a Jet Ski, according to MTV News. After being struck in the head and knocked unconscious, Glover was pulled from the water by a bystander. Both victims were flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, where, according to TMZ, the boy did not have any brain activity when he arrived at the hospital and is still on life support. Brain death, USA Today reports, occurs when all brain activity has stopped permanently, the person is in a coma, and the person is no longer breathing. The girl's injuries are "serious." Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, officials say, and they plan to recreate the accident to learn more.

Usher and Foster were married from 2007 to 2009. The "OMG" singer, 33, said the couple had lived apart for a year at the time of their breakup, a claim which Foster, 44, denied. Foster had three sons from previous relationships, including Kyle, whose father is Atlanta TV executive Ryan Glover, and two sons with Usher: 4-year-old Usher Raymond V and 3-year-old Naviyd Raymond. Usher and Foster have been locked in a custody battle over their two boys in which Foster accused the crooner of sleeping with one of her bridesmaids from their wedding, among other things. Despite their differences, Usher was quick to send a private jet to bring Foster to her son, TMZ reports. The singer arrived at the hospital on Saturday night.

However, by Monday morning, Usher was in an Atlanta courtroom, where he was granted a one-year restraining order against Darshelle Jones-Rakestraw, a woman who's been showing up at his Atlanta home and claiming to be his wife. It's not clear yet whether the tragedy will affect Usher's concert schedule. He released a new album, Looking 4 Myself, last month, and was just announced as a performer at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas on September 21 and 22, which is also set to feature Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, and others.
