UPDATE: Oprah Denies Introducing Donda West & Dr. Adams

LOS ANGELES (November 13, 2007) - Oprah Winfrey denies she is the one who introduced Dr. Donda West to Dr. Jan Adams, the surgeon who operated on West hours before her death.

In a statement to Access Hollywood, a rep for Oprah dispelled reports that the talk show queen had introduced the two.

"Absolutely untrue. Oprah did not introduce Dr. West to Dr. Adams," the statement read.

The rep added Oprah neither introduced, nor recommended, the two and that the last time Oprah had spoken to Dr. West was April 27, 2005, when she had Dr. West and her son on the show.

However, earlier in the day, a source told Access Hollywood that Dr. Adams was, in fact, one of two doctors Oprah recommended to West. The source claimed Oprah also recommended a doctor in Chicago.

Meanwhile, in a statement released to Access Hollywood, Dr. Adams said, "I want to first express my deepest condolences to the West family at a very difficult time. As a medical doctor practicing in this field, I hold sacred the bond of confidentiality that exists between the patient and doctor. Out of respect of the West family and the absence of verifiable information any comment without having first discussing that information with the family would be unprofessional."

Additionally, the LA Coroner's office has confirmed to Access Hollywood the autopsy of Donda West has been expedited and will now happen today. It was originally scheduled for Wednesday.

Disturbing allegations have been raised against Dr. Adams in the wake of West's death. Not only are officials asking the California Medical Board to consider revoking Dr. Adams' license, but CelebTV.com is also reporting Dr. Adams has been the target of several malpractice suits.

CelebTV.com was the first to obtain these documents filed in April 2007 from the Executive Director of the California Medical Board is asking the board to consider revoking or suspending the surgeon's license. The document cites Dr. Adams' multiple arrests for DUI, as well as the board's Business and Professions Code.

The document obtained by CelebTV.com cite two alleged arrests for DUI in Los Angeles, including one on March 31, 2006, where Dr. Adams was arrested for allegedly having a blood alcohol level of .10 according to two breath analyzer tests.

When the case went to trial, Dr. Adams was found not guilty of DUI, however was guilty of driving with a blood alcohol level of .08 or greater and he was sentenced to 96 hours in jail and given five years probation. He was also ordered to enroll in an alcohol treatment and counseling program and attend 60 Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, according to the document.

In January 2003, Dr. Adams pled no contest to another DUI charge and was placed on three years probation. The court papers also mention an incident in September 2002 where he allegedly lost control of his vehicle and struck a parked car.

In addition, CelebTV.com says it has also obtained documents which reveal two malpractice judgments handed down against Dr. Adams by the LA Superior Court for his medical practice.

In August 2001, he was ordered to pay $250,000 in one of the claims. One month later, he was ordered to pay $217,337 in another malpractice judgment, reports CelebTV.com.

    It's not Oprah fault for Mrs. West. What I blame Oprah for is bringing that doctor on her show. And it didn't happen once. She put him on a pedestal, plus he got free advertisement. Her company has enough resources to check on a doctor who brings on the show. At least check a little bit on his caracter and malpractice suits. Is he an alcoholic too?

    Oprah is to blame for this. Only she would know a doctor that would do this surgery after other's would not. IS IT NOT COMMON KNOWLEDGE IN HOLLYWOOD THAT ALL BLACK CELEBRITIES THAT WANT COSMETIC SURGERY GO THROUGH MICHEAL JACKSON? Michael has changed his race, his face, his sex......his doctors can do anything! THis could have been prevented!!!

    To 2btrue......very good point. I did not mean people who need reconstructive surgery. I spoke of the vain and shallow rich losers who voluntarily get cosmetic & plastic surgery done instead of dieting and hitting the gym. I have no sympathy for these pathetic scum!!

    My prayers go out to Kanye and his family, the loss of a loved one is never easy to deal with easpecially when it your mom. Also leave Oprah alone its not her fault.     To Salvina Warrior: I used to think that way about plastic surgery patients. I don't anymore when a good friend underwent chemo for having breast cancer. She had to have both breasts removed thus getting plastic surgery for new breasts. What about the people that lose a limb or are disfigured in an accident? What if that happened to you? I'm pretty sure you'd think twice!! Check yourself!
