The "90210" kids are growing up!
Actress Tori Spelling -- who played teen Donna Martin on the hit 1990s series -- turns the big 4-0 on May 16. Everyone knows Tori loves a good party -- her lavish kiddie parties have been featured on her reality show "Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood," and she's even penned a how-to book on party planning -- but how will she celebrate her big day?
Since she's such a party girl, here's a look at some of Tori Spelling's top party moments, with a hint on how she and hubby Dean McDermott will celebrate her 40th.
Hattie's "Alice in Wonderland" Party
Last fall, the mom of four threw an "Alice in Wonderland"-themed birthday bash for her daughter Hattie, and the 1-year-old took her first steps during the party! (You can see video here.) According to Us Weekly, the party boasted balloon makers, face painters, and the birthday girl dressed as "Mad Hattie." On her blog, Tori wrote, "As with any party at the McDermott home, we prepped and planned for weeks, making sure every single detail would reflect the party's theme and that each family member (dogs included!) had the perfect costumes."
Liam's "Star Wars" Soiree
In March, the force was with Tori when she threw a "Star Wars" style 6th birthday celebration for her son Liam. The party-planning mom pulled out all the stops for her firstborn, even hiring actors to dress as the movie's iconic characters Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker, and filling an R2D2 piñata full of treats. A rep for the family told omg! that Dean McDermott missed the festivities due to a trip to the E.R. when his older son Jack (from his first marriage to Canadian TV host Mary Jo Eustace) "broke his nose in Liam's bouncy house" before the party.
Tea Time for Stella
It was tea for 20 last summer when Tori threw a 4th birthday tea party for her daughter Stella. The birthday girl requested a color scheme of pink and purple with a pop of yellow, and guests noshed on tea sandwiches made by daddy Dean (some were even crown-shaped made with a crown cookie cutter) and tea pots filled with lemonade. Edible glitter pops adorned the dessert table, as did a Hansen's marble cake with butter cream filling.
Stella's First Birthday
Fans of Tori and Dean's Oxygen reality show have to remember daughter Stella' s first birthday party back in 2009. The ladybug-themed bash (Stella's nickname is Buggy) featured a gardening station, a cookie-decorating station, an insect zoo, and kiddie musical group The Jumpitz. According to People, the guest list included Lisa Rinna, Harry Hamlin, Scott Baio, and Larry Birkhead, but one person who was noticeably absent from the festivities was Tori's mom, Candy Spelling. (At the time, the two were estranged.) While the reality star tried to extend an olive branch to her
mom by inviting her to the buggy bash, Candy famously penned an open letter to TMZ, blasting her daughter with: "A big party wasn't how I envisioned meeting my granddaughter for the first time; but, hey, this is Hollywood, and my grandchildren have become reality show props, too …I didn't realize I was being set up for a two-parter, even though it was clear I was being invited to be part of a segment for my daughter's reality show." Ouch! (Luckily, Tori and her mom have patched up their rocky relationship since then.)
So what's the scoop on Tori's own party plan? Last summer, she told Parade magazine, "Wow, when I turn 40 I'm going to have four kids and I've accomplished so much in life. I'm happy and blessed with my kids and my husband and our animals. I'm a party planner at heart so any excuse to throw a party, though I always do it for the kids and never big ones for ourselves. But maybe at 40 I'll throw myself a big one!"
We're sure she will -- and we can't wait to see the pics!
