It wouldn't be the same in Hollywood if we went a whole year without any newborns given unusual names. The famous are well known for choosing some of the most trend setting, and some of the strangest, baby names, and 2011 was no exception. Here is a look at the top five unique celebrity baby names of the year.
Little Spike Myers was born to comedian Mike Myers and his wife, Kelly Tisdale, in September. This name makes us wonder if they had a new Bull Dog puppy and possibly got the names mixed up? Poor Spike may not have an easy time growing up, but Myers rep told US magazine that the baby was "healthy and his parents are ecstatic." We suppose that's all that really matters!
Press Dahl Lamas
Why would this precious little newborn be given a name like Press? Her mother, Shayne Lamas, daughter of actor Lorenzo Lamas and former Bachelor winner, told E! News that the name came to her at the beginning of her pregnancy because "she was getting so much press." The name was initially a joke, but Lamas said when she found out she was having a girl she thought "Princess Press", sounded like a beautiful name.
Shayne made another interesting decision when she decided to marry her husband, Nik Richie. The couple married in Las Vegas within hours of meeting in 2010.
Xander Dane Jones
We don't know who the father of this bouncing baby boy is, but "Mad Men" star, January Jones gave birth to little Xander Dane Jones on September 13, 2011. The 33-year-old said she did not want to pick out a clichéd name for her baby, and she certainly did just that.
35-year-old actress Alicia Silverstone and husband Christopher Jarecki, became parents for the first time this year. Silverstone gave birth to a baby boy, Bear Blu, on May 5, 2011. While she hasn't provided an explanation for the moniker, one thing is certain. The name is definitely memorable, if somewhat strange. There will probably not be any other children named Bear in the Class of 2029, although in Hollywood, you never know.
Talk about a mouthful. It may take some time before baby Aleph learns to pronounce, let alone spell, his full name. Actress Natalie Portman, and her fiance' choreographer Benjamin Millepied, named their son after the first letter in the Hebrew alphabet. Aleph Portman-Millepied was born in June to the couple who met on the set of "Black Swan."
