LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Actress Suzanne Somers claims chemotherapy killed actor Patrick Swayze.

In a new interview with Toronto's National Post, Somers - a former cancer survivor - reportedly blames Swayze's course of treatment -- and not his disease -- for taking the "Dirty Dancing" star's life.

"They took this beautiful man and they basically put poison in him," Somers told National Post columnist Shinan Govani. "Why couldn't they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins in his body?"

In 2001, the former "Three's Company" actress revealed she was battling breast cancer. However, after having surgery to remove the lump followed by radiation treatment, she refused chemotherapy against the advice of her doctors in favor of alternative treatment.

"I hate to be this controversial," Somers continued. "I'm a singer-dancer-comedienne. But we have an epidemic going on, and I have to say it."

Swayze announced he was battling pancreatic cancer in March 2008. He died on September 14, 2009 at the age of 57.

Following his death, the actor's body was cremated, according to his death certificate obtained by Access Hollywood.

Ms. Somer's comments were insensitive to Mr. Swayze's family so soon after his passing, and were an obvious attempt to get publicity for her new book on alternative cancer treatments. I have little respect for her anymore.

I understand Suzanne Somers is a cancer survivor and there are different types of cancer, some treatable. Ms.Somers has a right to her opinion but she doesn't have a medical degree and has no idea of how to treat cancers. Supplements and getting rid of toxins in the body may help some but not all. Everyone has an opinon including myself but should not state chemotherapy killed himl

Suzanne is right. Cancer can be cured. Gerson Institute, Hippocrates Institute, Brenda Cobb, Ann Wigmore etc...... Just because Suzanne is beautiful and blond does not mean she is stupid. She is living proof that cancer can be healed by natural means. Quit putting so much faith in doctors people and do some research. We don't need national healthcare, we need national intelligence. What an idiot. 5% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer live up to 5 years. Most die 3 to 6 months after recieving a diagnosis, because most don't get diagnosed until the cancer has progressed. Pancreatic cancer isn't treated well by chemo, so most who get chemo die less painfully. It RARELY helps and people with this type of cancer RARELY go into a full remission.

People undergoing cancer treatment have the right to choose or refuse certain aspects of their treatment protocol. My cancer was very aggressive; I had dose-intensive chemo, followed by surgery & radiation. Hope is SO important to cancer pts. -and all of us, no one should take that away from anyone. The only reason I'm here 5 yrs later is because of my treatments!!! Get 2nd, 3rd o
