Stars Come Out To Celebrate Gay Marriage Ruling In Hollywood

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- The California Supreme Court ruling allowing gays to legally marry was celebrated last night in Hollywood with a special commitment ceremony attended by celebrities including "Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight and the "Tonight Show's" Jay Leno.

"It's just marriage, that's what people need to realize. It's just marriage and that's it. It needs no clarifying," Knight told Access. "Equality needs no clarifier."

In what may be one of the last symbolic commitment ceremonies in California since the state Supreme Court ended the ban on gay marriage, gay and lesbian couples packed the floor of West Hollywood hot spot The Abbey to express their love in front of family, friends and celebrity witnesses.

"It's life and it's fine," Knight said. "I have a lot of friends that are gay, a couple that have been married for years and years."

Proudly wearing Love and Pride's Matthew Shepard "Erase Hate" pendant, Jay Leno and Knight joined Judy Shepard, Matthew's gay activist mom, at the celebration.

"I actually had a discussion with my son, Matthew, before he was killed about marriage," she said. "He asked me, 'Do you think we'll ever be able to marry?' And I said 'I think you'll see it in your life time, but not in mine,' and ironically it turned out to be the other way around. So this is really a great day for me personally."

Though the option is open, there will be no upcoming nuptials for Knight and his boyfriend Mark Cornelsen.

"Not in the near future," he said. "I take it seriously. I take it very seriously because when you're denied something, you don't realize what a second-class citizen you are until you get it."

No Ciara, you dont have to marry in front of god. You can make your own vows and can get married anywhere, not just in a church. The bible states you shouldn't lay with a man as you would a woman. Thats a heterosexual reference as all gay men I know NEVER would sleep with a woman as they would a man. There is nothing in the bible againts gays. Clean out your own closets before judgi

Heather, your trailer park education has lead you to completely misinterpret the very bible verses you mention. Do you even know the name of the city(ies) you did, and yet didn't reference? Homosexuality was not the issue at all. The issue was about hetersexuals having homosexual sex. Leave the trailer park, get an education.

assassin_xoxo i totally agree... I dont judge no one but if you all would read a bible it states that a city was destroyed because of gays.. God is forgiving... If they change there ways he will welcome them with open arms.. But why forgive a sinner when they contuine to sin? Here are the Chapters in the bible look them up for yourself Romans 1:26,27 and Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, 1 Co

But "%@!*#ydeena" does have a very valid point. There are so many hypocrites out there that mock marriage by bopping along between "marriages" (sorry, Charlie Sheen, I love you, but you're one of them) . *sigh* It's never going to be correct or perfect so why pick on one aspect?

What's horrible is that the protesters are really going back and stretching for a way to protest; saying that God will smite them and all that. They are still under the impression that God is vengeful when he is forgiving and accepting. After all, if it was not a normal state to be gay, why are there so many? God had a hand in that since he is the Creator. Think about it.

this is america and no citizen should be treated like a second class person. it's just not about marriage. it's about the fact that millions of people were denied their rights just because they chose to love someone different. we are all one step closer to acheiving true equality.
