The Spice Girls are preparing to perform at the closing ceremony of the Olympics! The Fab 5 are reuniting to rock the Brits and the world. All of the members of the bestselling '90s girl group were spotted rehearsing together in London. Scary Spice, Sporty Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice and even Posh Spice will bring the noise this Sunday at the high profile event. The spicy set will also help to promote the upcoming Spice Girls musical, "Viva Forever."
The London Olympics opened with a 007-style bang. Daniel Craig and Queen Elizabeth appeared to skydive and parachute into the Olympic Park stadium. The opening ceremony also featured fireworks bursting over Tower Bridge and the River Thames. It will be interesting to see whether the Spice Girls' fun, high energy song-and-dance routines will top that. Additional closing show performers include: Jessie J, Annie Lennox, Brain May, The Pet Shop Boys, Tinie Tempah and George Michael.
Taking on the global stage is a huge accomplishment for Mel B., Mel C., Geri, Emma and Victoria. The pop singers burst onto the scene in 1994 with platform shoes, bright clothes, distinctive personalities and chants of "Girl Power!" Before this year, however, the Union Jack power pals had not appeared together in public since their 2007-2008 reunion tour.
In case you're wondering what the girls have been up to since "Wannabe," here's a cheat sheet.
Ever since Posh learned how to "Bend it Like Beckham," her life hasn't been the same. Victoria and her "football" star hubbie, David Beckham, have been living in the States since David plays for the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team. The dynamic duo has also been raising their four children: Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. The Beckham empire includes fashion lines, perfume deals and lucrative endorsements.
Scary has also invested time in being a mom. The singer made tabloid headlines in 2006 when she became pregnant with Eddie Murphy's baby, Angel Iris. Brown confirmed Murphy's paternity with a DNA test. Mel's older child, Phoenix Chi, was fathered by her first husband, Dutch dancer Jimmy Gulzar. Melanie and her current husband, movie producer Stephen Belafonte, also have a daughter together named Madison Brown.
Mel C. has been pursuing an acting career. She played Mrs Johnstone in London's West End musical "Blood Brothers." For the role, Mel was nominated as "Best Actress in a Musical" at the 2010 Laurence Olivier Awards. She's also been outspoken about her struggles with an eating disorder and depression.
Geri dumped her spicy sisters in 1998. All appears to be well now, and of the group, Ginger Spice says, "individually and collectively, they're really lovely." Geri also published a book series named "Ugenia Lavender."
Baby Spice is the youngest member of the group and has been actively involved in British radio, television and music as a presenter and solo artist.
The Spice Girls' musical "Viva Forever" will begin previews on November 27th and opens December 11th at the Piccadilly Theatre in London.
Will you be watching the Spice Girls rock the Olympics' closing this Sunday? What do you hope to see?
