Nepotism is alive and well in Hollywood. Actor and movie producer Will Smith recently cast his 10-year-old daughter Willow Smith in the starring role of Annie in an upcoming remake of the movie musical "Annie" based on the charming red-headed comic strip orphan desperate to find a family.
But why stop there?
Will Smith could find roles for the whole Smith family in a movie about America's other "first" African American family, the Obamas. Instead of "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" it would be "The Smith Family Goes to Washington."
The idea is not as far-fetched as it may sound. Back in the winter of 2008, then presidential candidate Barack Obama selected Will Smith to play him in the inevitable movie about his life. "Will and I have talked about this because he has the ears!" Obama said on an interview on Entertainment Tonight, as reported by Huffington Post.
The flattered Smith did not nix the idea of playing America's first African American president. After Obama was elected to office, The Telegraph reported Smith joked to a crowd at his "Seven Pounds" movie premiere, "If I am ordered by my commander in chief to star in a film about him, I will do my duty as an American."
With the high overhead of his Hollywood lifestyle, however, Smith won't be able to resist the chance to produce the Obama movie himself and cast the rest of his family in other Obama family roles.
In Will Smith's Obama movie, Smith's actress wife Jada Pinkett Smith, best known for her roles in TV's "Hawthorne" and the "Madagascar" movies, would play First Lady Michelle Obama. Although the two women do not physically resemble each other, Jada possesses Michelle's toughness, and her on-screen chemistry with husband Will would be genuine.
To save money, the versatile Willow Smith would play both Malia and Sasha Obama, since she is betwixt the two in age. Charming Willow likes to mix it up with different styles anyway, and she could wear lifts to play the taller Malia.
Both Trey and Jaden Smith would tag team on flashbacks of Barack Obama growing up, with 12-year-old Jaden playing Obama as a boy and 18-year-old Trey portraying Obama in his high school and college years. Coincidentally, Jaden has already played Will Smith's son in the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness."
Unfortunately for Will Smith's dogs (four Rotweilers), none has the acting chops or looks to play first canine Bo, a Portuguese Water Dog. So at least one role will have to be played by a Smith family outsider.
Bo aside, what do you think of Will Smith's family playing the Obama family in a movie?
