Singer Adam Levine finds 'Voice' beyond Maroon 5

NEW YORK (AP) — From moving like Mick Jagger to dating Russian model Anne Vyalitsyna, Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine hasn't had problems attracting women in recent years.

In an interview, the 32-year-old said that even though he was a "nerdy" musician in high school, he still always had luck with the ladies.

"I loved hanging out with girls ... It was never an issue, how about that? And, of course, it's been magnified times 1,000 with this whole (fame) thing that's happened, so it's kind of crazy. I did OK. I did all right," he said, laughing.

Besides his music career, Levine has found success as one of the celebrity coaches on NBC's singing competition show "The Voice" alongside Blake Shelton, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green.

One of Levine's contestants, Javier Colon, won its first season. But not everyone thought it was a good idea for Levine to join the show.

"A musician's life is constantly filled with people saying, 'Why are you doing this?'" he said. "I'm a fan of people saying that because it must mean I'm doing something right. I've never been a fan of the cookie-cutter way of life. I liked that this was spiking something new into what I do."

Despite Levine's success so far on the show, he said he doesn't really have a strategy when it comes to staying ahead of the other judges.

"I don't really strategize as much as I want the right people to sing the right songs the right way and to have the right moment to hopefully increase their chances of moving forward because that's my job on the show," he said. "I'm there to help people be fully realized and have people see the best versions of who they are."

When he's not juggling his showbiz career, Levine is a huge basketball fan and roots for his hometown team, the Los Angeles Lakers. He also follows New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin, the team's surprising breakout star.

"God bless him, man. He is an inspiring dude," Levine said. "And I love to see New York fired up about basketball again. That makes me really happy."

"The Voice" airs Mondays on NBC.

I think Adam Levine is funny, a great singer and an asset to The Voice

I very much like the voice over american idol. I like the idea that the judges have to listen to the person singing before they see them. I like all of the judges, but I like esp. Adam and Blake

True enough. American Idol is more on appeal, personality and cuteness. "The Voice" lives up to its name where people are judged by their singing ability. On "Idol's" defense, I would say that their means of selection lives up to their name. The winner is the one who the majority "idolize" the most, regardless of vocal ability. Kind of like "The complete Package". What I'd want to see is a show that conceals what the contestants look like till the finals. That would be tough and of course, the media or some employee will find a way to leak it out to the public. if people in congress can leak top secret information, what more on showbiz?

I love Maroon 5 and I like Adam on the Voice. It's fun to see him get into it with the other judges; they make me laugh. I also love Christina.

Show's funny as hell! I love how they don't bleep out all the cussing that goes on, too. Much more real than the other "reality" shows, and shows that they are actually normal people.

Is there any musician out there who's girlfriend is not working for Victoria's Secrets? It's almost like a contract, you are a supermodel you must date a pop/rock star.

I think he's doing good as a "Voice" judge. I like their judges set-up and the way they humorously prey on each other to get someone on their team in an "unscripted and candid" sort of way. It was also nice to see Adam, Blake, and Cee Lo perform separately on the Grammy awards - bringing light to the fact that they are actually recognized artists outside of "The Voice". Of course, Cristina has been a household name for the last 10 years. Was she on the Grammy? I didn't see the whole show.

I'm on Team Blake, but like all the judges and their flirty and funny banter. I love the premise of the show --not being judged on looks but hearing the voice first, then the contestant being able to choose his/her mentor. The Voice definitely beats AI or XF. PS Jagger is NOT hot, never has been, never will be- yuck!

        Here is another thumbs up.

I never really liked the Rolling Stones in the first place. The only thing they had going is their longevity and yes... Mick Jagger is an ugly MF who just happens to have the right moves onstage for a certain audience.

Carol, don't compare him to Jagger!!! That IS an INSULT to Adam!!!

???? Adam said hes got the moves like Jagger , lol.

Maybe, but Adam is so much better looking!

This article was ok... I'd give it a C. (Note to Alicia: It would have been an "A" if there had been a pic of Adam. And an "A+" for a gallery or video clip. Just FYI for next time.)

OK Mrs. Landers . Your grading things because they haven't a video or a picture perhaps you should go get your coloring book and crayons.

James, obviously the point of my post was completely lost on you. Grammar, middle, high school, and seven years of post-secondary ed has given me the wonderful gift of comprehending a written passage without the need for a visual aid. My remark was of casual humor, because of how attractive Adam Levine is to so many. Pity I need to explain that to you. However, the fact that you feel you need to make a snide and juvenile reply, tells me you likely have no grasp of what I wrote, you have no sense of humor, and/or, you, in fact, do NOT look like Adam Levine.

I really like Adam! He is very handsome to boot. I watch The Voice, and I like the audition format on this show way better that Idol.

I find it interesting that these people think I'm not serious about what they did to me. I think I'll just let them find out for themselves and be the ones that get the shock of their life for a change. It's not cute anymore. It's been damaging for a long time and entering into permanently damaging territory now. A few more months and I'll be glad to watch everyone involved getting knocked down, one by one. I wanted to kill myself in 2008. Because of what these people did to me in this situation. I won't rest until the entire world understands that and someone is held accountable. A few months ago, that wound was re-opened by this #$%$ in this situation. I want the world to understand that too. That these people thought it would be hilarious to re-injure me in the exact same and profoundly painful way as they did five years ago. Someone should pay for that. And I don't mean monetarily. If I am obsessed with anything now, it's justice. I'm tired of people like this getting away with it, hurting people like me for no reason. When these people pay for their crimes, and they ARE crimes, then I will finally be able to get some peace in my heart, move on with my life, and find happiness again.

The 4 judges and the show are quite good, much better than American idol. I hate Maroon 5, but like him on the show and the concept. It is good to see a wide range of musicians judging contestants by their voice only.

I think that us it is so true that so many of the "nerdy"guys that get over looked turn out to be some of the best guys. I married one of those "nerdy" guys after a few failed relationships with the "hotties"...wouldn't trade my nerdy guy for anything, he is so down to earth, honest and loving...just glad I was lucky enough to find him!!

Saw them open for Mayer several years back. Great show. But he is kind of a douche. That whole spat with Fox News' Red Eye was lame...on his part.
