Are you sure it is just depression or something like BPD?

Good point, that may be uncovered during treatment. Goodness knows she's a few sandwiches shy of a picnic. That being said I sure hope she gets all the help she needs and it will take more than two weeks.

Depression is not a death sentence, nor does it cure itself it two weeks. With a doctor's help and medication, you can lead a normal life. Depression never goes away but you learn what your triggers are and learn how to deal with it. I was diagnosed with severe depression a few years ago. And I am ever so glad I found help. yeah, I still have my bad days. But now I know why I am the way I am. And you know, thats OK. :) Good luck.

She's always been depressed if that's not obvious. She's just not a happy person; she's one of those unfortunate souls that can see the wrong in everything. Hopefully she comes out of this recent bout ok.

She needs to be treated for depression and drugs at the same time. Without treatment for both, Ms. O'Connor will continue to struggle. Wish her the best.

And she thinks we care why? I remember when she talked about how much she hated America and the Americans while she lined her pockets with our money for her music! The money stopped real quick once she started running her head!

What's sad is that with long hair, she really is a beautiful woman. With her head shaved, she looks like a freak.

If the only way of asking for help is twitter, then you are doomed to fail, have to look at yourself and ask "where are my friends, family ?, why am I so angry ?,"

Two weeks? She thinks that someone so seriously depressed that they need hospitalization will be 'put back together' in two weeks??

I am really suspicious that this is just another publicity stunt. When someone is desperate and depressed, do they really go on Twitter and other public forums to publicly announce that they need help? When I think of myself, and others that I know who have battled depression, it is a very private decision to seek help, and one that is not arrived at easily. This would seem especially true for a public person who has apparently always struggled with being in the public eye. When you couple this with her "marriage" fiasco, it seems like she is gearing up to promote something. That is truly shameless if that is the case. These very human struggles are private and difficult matters. To use them as a means to get "some ink," trivializes the struggles that we all go through.

Having been treated for severe depression myself (with a happy ending) I recognized Sinead's problemsome behavior as that of a depressed woman. That explains her bizarre behavior throughout the years. Every act of defiant or weird behavior is a cry for help. If she allows herself to get chemically balanced, she will look back on her actions and come to a sobering realization that she wasn't normal. Then, she will have to forgive herself.
