LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Simon Cowell and girlfriend Terri Seymour have called it quits after six years, according to People.

"Terri phoned Simon and finished it in September, about six weeks ago," a rep for the "American Idol" judge told the mag. "They are going to remain close friends. Simon thinks the world of Terri and that isn't going to change. He also understands her reason for ending it."

The rep added that the couple's disagreement over having children may have helped lead to the split.

"In the past Terri has said that she wants kids but that just isn't Simon," he said. "Nobody else is involved, certainly not on Simon's side."

The couple reportedly began dating in 2002, after Terri, a British television presenter, interviewed him for a show.
