After calling ex Elisha Cuthbert "sloppy seconds," hockey player Sean Avery has been cut from the Dallas Stars.

"Not only has it seemed to not work with Sean and his teammates, and maybe even the city of Dallas, but the team wasn't playing well and then, on top of it, the issues that came out off the ice compounded things," Stars co-General Manager Brett Hull said on a media conference call. "I'm disappointed. I would imagine he is disappointed."

Before the season began, Avery signed a four-year, $15.5 million deal. Hull said his contract would still be honored as they explore options for the star, who is voluntarily participating in a 10-day treatment program.

When he completes the counseling, the Stars may trade him, assign him to the minor leagues or a European team, or buy out the remainder of his contract.

"There's no question he can be a valuable asset on a hockey team," Hull said. "That being said, he's got to fix those demons he has before that can happen. It becomes such a huge distraction that it almost takes away from his ability to play the game."

Avery was suspended earlier this month after he made the derogatory comments about Cuthbert, who is now dating Calgary Flames defenseman Dion Phaneuf.

"I am really happy to be back in Calgary, I love Canada," he said. "I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds. I don't know what that's about. Enjoy the game tonight."

I dont think it is so much of what he said as it is where. There is a time and a place mabye he should have waited until he was out with his buddies and not in the middle of an interview. The punishment is somewhat extreme though.

I hope this MUTT moves to Siberia. Terrell Owens should go with him. Their counter productivity far out weighs their talent. Besides that they're both walking Ads for birth control...

What a bunch of crapola. Where's that "higher standard" of hockey when NHL players are out there on the ice rink smashing teeth and swearing like gang of sailors? Seems like the Dallas stars lost out on this one... not only will they have to facilitate the exorcism of Avery's non-existent "demons" but they'll also probably have to fork ov
