Access Hollywood - April 19, 2008 12:00 PM PDT

GLOUCESTER, Mass. -- Sandra Bullock and her husband, Jesse James were involved in a minor car accident with an allegedly drunk driver Friday Evening, Access Hollywood has confirmed.

Bullock and James were passengers in the back of a black sports utility vehicle, driving along East Main Street in Gloucester, Mass, at around 9:50 PM local time, when their car was hit by the alleged drunk driver, Lieutenant Jerry Cook of the Gloucester Police Department told Access.

Lucille Gatchell, the operator of the vehicle which struck the car Bullock and James were in, was driving erratically shortly before the incident occurred, according to a witness.

"We had a witness in back of her getting ready to call 911," Lieutenant Cook said.

Just as the witness was going to call in, Gatchell, who had been crossing over the white line according to the witness, hit the vehicle Bullock and James were in "head on," according to Lieutenant Cook.

Luckily for the actress, who is in Massachusetts filming "The Proposal" with Ryan Reynolds, "her driver was driving real slow - 15 miles an hour," Lieutenant Cook said. There was damage to the car Bullock was riding in, however.

When authorities arrived on scene, Gatchell allegedly "had a strong odor of alcohol and was unsteady on her feet."

Despite being hit by Gatchell, the actress was worried about the other driver.

"Ms. Bullock was concerned with the operator of the other car. I think she thought she might have been injured," he said.

Gatchell allegedly tested "two and a half times the legal limit," according to Lieutenant Cook

Authorities arrested Gatchell following the incident. She has been released and will appear in court on Tuesday.

Lieutenant Cook said the accident involving the star of "Speed," and "Miss Congeniality," proves "no matter who you are you can be a victim of a drunk driver," he said.

I so thank God They are ok. It so sounds like Sandra to be worried about the drunk driver. She seems like such a sweet person. You know there is a saying in my line of work. But for the grace of god go I. Remember this before anyone drinks and drives. Set you up a designated driver. My children do I do. We always set one up. If everyone would there would be no more drinking and driving accidents.
