Salma Hayek Spills Surprising Childhood Secret in September Allure

Brown-Eyed Beauty was Teased About Her Looks

In yet another suspicious Hollywood-hottie-who-didn't-get-asked-to-the-prom sob story, Salma Hayek told Allure magazine she was taunted about her looks as a child growing up in Mexico. Covering the magazine's September issue, the half Latina-half Lebanese beauty lamented she was sometimes teased by other kids because she was "too short" or "too brown."

The alleged ugly duckling looks more like a sexy swan on Allure's September cover in which she is literally busting off the page in a plunging Yves Saint Laurent black cardigan. The "30 Rock" heartbreaker assesses her famous assets inside, saying her breasts looked better 10 years ago, though she understatedly admits "they're not bad."

Hayek was featured in Alllure as part of her new role as the face of the Salma Hayek collection, a cosmetics line that will be sold exclusively by CVS. According to the company's website, "the products represent the fusion of her grandmother's cosmetology training with her own vision of beauty, shaped by years of travel around the world."

In her Allure interview, the Mexican-raised actress praised her grandmother's unconventional beauty techniques, which included a hair-raising natural conditioning treatment. "Once, she shaved our heads and put egg on it," said Hayek. "But I have to give her credit-my hair is great."

The 44-year-old mom claims to be a natural beauty herself. "I've never had anything done on my face," she said, referring not only to plastic surgery, but common dermatological treatments such as dermabrasion, peels and injections.

In fact, the "Frida" actress seems to find the phony mannequin look unattractive. "It's like the uniform of a generation, and it's not necessarily beautiful," she said. "It's not wrinkled-looking, but it's not beautiful."

In the world according to Salma, sexiness is more a matter of being comfortable in your own body, an advantage that older women possess over taut-skinned 20-somethings because they are more "self-assured." Said Hayek, "As a woman, you should be more at ease with your sexuality when you are in your 40s." Part of that poise is knowing how to walk in high heels, she said, comparing women who do not know how to walk gracefully in treacherous footwear to "a chicken that's been spiked in the feet."

Despite her new beauty line, Hayek is squeezing in some time for acting. She will play a dancer at a club in Tijuana in a French film called "Americano" premiering next month at the Toronto Film Festival and will voice the part of Kitty Southpaws in the upcoming animated version of "Puss in Boots."
