Russell Brand's Late-Night Show Will Be Awesome -- Here's Why!

It's safe to say that Russell Brand is packing some real star power these days. As proof, the FX network, who is making a name for themselves with edgy comedies like "Louie" and "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia," has signed up the British comedian and actor for six late night, half-our shows. Details on the show's format and material are vague, but it's clear that Brand's trademark honesty and biting wit are precisely what the executives at FX want.

So can the star of "Get Him to the Greek" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" make his mark on late-night cable TV in a field that's already got Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert? From the sounds of it, the show will be treated more like a limited-run or a special, so perhaps the direct competition won't matter as much. However, there are plenty of reasons that Brand's new show should be pretty great and well worth a watch, and here are just a few.

He and FX Are a Perfect Fit - Since FX has already made a very clear move to be known as a network that's not afraid to push the envelope a bit, Brand will fit right in. He's witty, quick on the uptake, and not afraid to "go there" if the mood strikes him. What's good for the viewer is that FX's lenient policies on language and subject matter will mean quite a bit should actually make it uncensored onto the air, making the show unpredictable, which is never a bad thing in late night.

Possible Katy Perry Sightings? - Russell just happens to be married to one of the hottest names in entertainment right now. Singer Katy Perry and he wed last year, and all indications that things are smooth sailing in the Brand/Perry household. Could Mrs. Russell Brand be convinced to make an appearance or two on her husband's new show? It's certainly intriguing to think about!

It's Only 30 Minutes Long - Working within a shorter time-frame will keep the show's pace brisk, and in comedy that's never a bad thing. If Brand was trying to cobble together six episodes of an hour or ninety minutes long, he'd probably be in danger, unless he managed to steal away a team from one of the other big late night names.

The Potential For Great Guests - Brand has been working with some of the biggest names in comedy these days. From Jonah Hill to Jason Segel, he's shared screen time with some very buzz-worthy stars. Perhaps that working relationship will translate into some great A-list celebrities dropping by. Even Sean "P. Diddy" Combs could drop by to talk about their experiences making "Get Him to the Greek."
