Only a couple weeks ago British actor and comedian Russell Brand filed for divorce from pop singer Katy Perry after a 14-month marriage but it appears things are looking up for this brooding British import.
It was announced on Monday Russell would be getting his own late night talk show on FX. The currently untitled show is expected to be the comedian's way of expressing his thoughts on politics, pop culture and other headlines before a live audience.
The six episode show is presumed to air later in 2012 but we're not so sure this is going to be a sure thing for Russell. Here's why:
Russell Who?
Okay, so it's not like Russell is unknown. He's been in a few popular movies including "Get Him to the Greek" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" but he still has yet to star in a Hollywood blockbuster to earn him the amount of fans he needs to tune in in order to have a successful talk show.
Russell previously hosted a talk show in the UK about six years ago that was very short lived because the actor was forced to resign after making lewd, prank phone calls.
Between his irresponsible past and his lame Hollywood status we don't see Russell maintaining his show on FX.
Another Talk Show?
It seems every other month there's a new talk show being created. Between Anderson Cooper getting his daytime show, and Bravo expanding their "Watch What Happens Live" from one night to five nights a week, is there room for ANOTHER talk show for people to tune in?
Let's stick with what we have and only give talk shows to celebrities who have been in the business a little bit longer.
Who Cares?
So the point of the talk show is for Russell to give U.S. audiences his opinions on pop culture and news. If Ricky Gervais, another British comedian, were the one to have the talk show there's no doubt it would be wildly successful but we're not sure anyone cares what Russell's opinion is on pop culture.
After all, the details about his marriage with Katy P. have been in every tabloid since the two split. Is he one to really make fun of other celebrities?
