Britney Spears and Russell Brand MTVAccess Hollywood
LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Are Russell Brand and Britney Spears flirting? In a new video for the MTV Video Music Awards, the returning host and the pop princess can't stop thinking about each other.
"Look at that - Russell is hosting the VMAs again this year. Good for him," Britney thinks in a voice-over narration as she stands poolside in one of her recent signature bikinis.
"I wonder if he'll invite me," Britney continues. "I mean, I can obviously get an invite, but it'd be nice for Russell to invite me personally, now that we're friends and all."

Meanwhile, Russell worries that he may have ruined his chances with her at the 2008 Awards, where he got in hot water for controversial remarks about the Jonas Brothers' promise rings.
"Oh no," he thinks. "Some of those things I said could have been construed as offensive! I hope she don't think ill of me."

But his words didn't seem to bother Britney, who starred with Russell -- and an elephant -- in promos for last year's ceremony, where Britney took home Video of the Year.
"I have to admit, there is something sexy about his dangerous ways," she thinks.
Then, Russell realizes the two are hearing each other's voice-over thoughts.

"Hold on a minute - that's Britney's voice in my mind! If I can hear her voice in my mind," he thinks, before urging the star to make a move with him. "Britney! This is the voice of your mind! Go to Russell's hotel room and abandon yourself."
And another promo, starring Ne-Yo, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry, among others, began airing earlier this week, paying tribute to the musical "West Side Story" with a song to the tune of "Tonight."
The Video Music Awards air on MTV on September 13.
