Rosie O'Donnell is one lucky woman!
The outspoken actress and former talk show host admits that she was incredibly lucky when she suffered a heart attack earlier this year. After suffering symptoms of a heart attack, she made the decision to ignore them and opted not to call 911. It was only through the quick thinking of her wife, Michelle Rounds, that may have saved her life.
"I said to Michelle, 'I think this could be a heart attack," Rosie said on "The Dr. Oz Show" which will air Thursday. "She says, 'I'm going to get you some aspirin.' By chance, three days before, [Michelle] had purchased Bayer's Women's Aspirin. I chewed them, and then I fell asleep. But then I did not call 911, and I should have. It was the stupidest decision I ever made in my life."
After the health scare, the star has dedicated herself to getting the word out about heart attacks and how women should react when they believe they may be having one. Unfortunately, she has found little support in her fellow celebrities and has had difficulty finding any other celebrities who have had heart attacks.
"I'm Googling and I'm like, 'How come there's no women who had a heart attack? Am I the only [female] celebrity that ever had a heart attack?'" she says. "Well I don't know if I am, but I guess I'm the only one who wants to talk about it."
Unfortunately, it does appear that Rosie is one of the few female celebrities who have had a heart attack and are willing to talk about it. Here are a few of the stars that we've been able to dig up that have had a heart attack:
Tami Roman: One of the stars of the VH1 reality romp, "Basketball Wives", suffered a heart attack last March. The reality star headed to the hospital in Los Angeles immediately after an online chat she was conducting to promote the show. She would later tweet, "Never thought I'd have a mild heart attack at 41. God has a way of bringing things into perspective. Finally going home 2my kids-heart meds and all."
Toni Braxton: The R&B singer is best known for her hit single "Unbreak My Heart" and the WE TV series "Braxton Family Values", but she is also one of the few female stars to openly talk about her heart troubles. During an appearance on "Lopez Tonight" in 2010 the singer explained, "I was doing my Vegas show and I would have these episodes where I got extremely fatigued. They said you need a heart transplant. They came back three days later and said, 'We misdiagnosed you -- you've had a petite heart attack."
Mother Theresa: The iconic Catholic nun suffered three heart attacks before her death in 1997. Her first attack came in 1983 while she was visiting Pope John Paul II in Rome. A second attack came in 1989 causing her to receive a pacemaker. As she aged, her heart deteriorated and she died of heart disease in September 1997.
