Robert Pattinson: "Nobody Would Give a Sh-t About" Me Without Twilight

Robert Pattinson: "Nobody Would Give a Sh-t About" Me Without Twilight

Twilight made him an international movie star, but Robert Pattinson doesn't believe his own hype.

Speaking to The Herald Scotland Sunday, the 25-year-old actor opened up about how the hit vampire franchise changed the way he looks at moviemaking.

PHOTOS: The many sexy faces of Robert Pattinson

"Doing something like Twilight opens doors and it closes others. You can say, 'Oh if I was still unknown, then no one would judge me,'" Pattinson said. "But at the same time, nobody would give a sh-t either. It's a weird little balance."

Pattinson will attempt to distance himself from the movies that made him famous in the upcoming period film Bel Ami, costarring Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas.

"There is something quite fun about going from Edward Cullen to playing a guy who pretty much abuses women to get money out of them," Pattinson says. "Edward so wouldn't approve. So, yes, I thought that was a funny irony. But the story, independently, is great, and I only thought about the irony afterwards."

VIDEO: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart exchange vows in Breaking Dawn

"The thing that stands out in the story in Bel Ami is just his behavior -- the women that he manages to screw over are all attracted to him to begin with, and so he starts having affairs with them and destroys their lives afterwards," says Pattinson. "That's kind of nuts."

actually saw him in this indie British film where he was like a socially awkward early 20's guy that hires a personal coach from Canada to help him reconnect with his family (that live in the same house). was actually a great movie and he gave a really good performance.

Kudos. He's a pretty decent actor, Twilight just wasn't his best.

Good to know some actors can put fame in perspective and realize how lucky they are.

I love me some Robert Pattinson- Remember Me was quite different from Twilight (why fix it when it isn't broken???) it's a really good film too. Give him a break.....

I actually knew he was going to get noticed after Harry Potter-I told my son to watch and see that the guy who plays Cedric is going to be big later. There's something very sincere about him, and if you'ever watched his interviews, he's a VERY nice, very respectful person-you people are so mean!

I love him and I've never seen Twilight. I saw him in 'Remember Me' and I thought he was an amazing actor. Plus I enjoy his sexiness...good Lord he is sexy!!!

I think he's right though. Has anyone seen "The Haunted Airman"? What a terrible waste of film. But even the story didn't make sense! I personally would watch something he did because he was so good in "Twilight."

Definitely! It was only after we had seen HPGF with him cast as Cedric that we even watched Twilight. So, when my daughter and I saw him it was like...It's Cedric!!! Not to mention, if he'd make a flippin record already, his music would also proceed him. Rob, don't downplay your following as an actor, we don't just love you for your Edward persona :) (Although, it is VERY nice :)

WOW! He is a person with feelings and opinions just like ya'll...why is it every time he opens his mouth someone has to respond rudely? If you don't like him/his movies then why are you reading the articles about him to begin with?! Hmmmmm.....
      • sarr 3 months ago
Totally agree with you Joe and Julie. The man's feet are grounded and what happens? He is bashed for it - sour apples people. Perhaps he should believe the hype that he's all that and more? Perhaps believe all the "yes" people that run to hang out with these "stars" so they can get a little rub with fame themselves?
As long as doors open he can have a career in movies - great luck to him.

Everyone needs a starting point. He just happened to get a great part to star in and made history doing it. I think he is the down to earth person he says he is and that will get him more great movie rolls. He would still be on my list even if it was not for Twilight. British, tall and goodlooking, so hot!!!

he's a very good actor and even if he wasn't in twilight he would have made it big hes a really good musician and hes tall really good looking he just happend to be in the right place at the right time and hes got a really pretty girlfriend to keep him grounded and i'm sure his parents remind him of that too i love the bond that the cast of the twilight moves have formed

I hate the Twilight Series but I can admit he is a good actor. I've seen him in a couple obscure movies that his real fan base would probably never watch and they were good. And the Water for Elephants was a good film as well. So if you don't like him in the first place don't but don't say it's because of Twilight... that's a cop out. Either you're jealous or something else.

He was great in "Remember Me". I think he would have been a star even without "Twilight". But hey, I am team Edward!!
