First of all, I am in no way supporting cheating. I think cheating can destroy a relationship and it could take years to rebuild trust that is lost, but Kristen seems genuinely sorry for her actions! And if the love is truly there, it’s worth rebuilding.
“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected,” Kristen said in a statement to People. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
It took an extreme amount of courage and bravery to make such a public plea for forgiveness! Did we ever hear Britney Spears admit and apologize for allegedly cheating on Justin Timberlake? No! And I’m still holding out hope that those two work things out and get back together one day! (Don’t judge.) But the fact of the matter is that Kristen risked a lot by making a public apology — something Britney never did!
Kristen’s career is on the line now that her affair has been revealed! She wasn’t required to make a statement nor apologize so publicly, but she did! While her statement doesn’t make up for her poor decisions, it certainly deserves recognition from Rob!
I do agree that Kristen needs to give Rob distance and time — she needs to let him make the first move — but I think Rob ultimately should forgive Kristen.
It’s quite obvious that they truly love one another and Kristen simply made a mistake.
Bill and Hilary Clinton, Fergie and Josh Duhamel, and Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker have all survived cheating scandals. And I believe Rob and Kristen will be the next couple to survive their own cheating scandal.
