Robert Downey Jr. and his wife Susan, became parents to a little blue bundle of joy on Tuesday morning! This is the couple's first child, the actor also has an 18-year-old son, Indio Falconer Downey, with his ex-wife Deborah Falconer.
Their newborn son was welcomed into the world weighing 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 inches long. A friend of the couple told People magazine, "Everyone is healthy and they couldn't be happier." But the first question on the minds of many, was probably, "What's his name?"
The "Iron Man" star accidentally spilled the secret that they were expecting a boy in December while he was a guest on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno," but he didn't let on what they'd planned to name him. Today, the word is out, and following in line with many unusual Hollywood monikers, they chose Exton Elias.
"Ex, what?" Yes, that's what we're afraid is going to happen as this little one grows up in the world of Tinsel Town. When a girlfriend, or heaven forbid, spouse breaks up with him, he'll be "ex-ex?" Ex-anything is not the most friendly nickname to be given, but perhaps they'll call him by his middle name, Elias, which sounds so much better.
The couple hasn't revealed why they chose the name, though it's said to be the name of a city in Pennsylvania.
This past year has brought an endless number of somewhat bizarre baby names. Singer Beyonce' and her husband Jay-Z welcomed Blue Ivy Carter into the world exactly one month ago today, on January 7. While we love the name Ivy, Blue just doesn't have quite the same pleasant ring to it.
Actress Alicia Silverstone's newborn son was given the name "Bear Blu," when she and hubby Christopher Jarecki became parents for the first time back in May. Maybe by the time they enter kindergarten there'll be more than a few Hollywood children running around with sky-colored names and it won't seem so odd?
Still, we don't think anything could be worse than what Frank Zappa named his children. His daughters were given the names, Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen and Moon Unit, while sons are Dweezil and Ahmet.
Of course, what's most important is that the babies are happy and healthy, and we're quite pleased to see Downey doing so well after his many years struggling with addiction. Welcome to the world Exton Elias!
