Ricky Gervais: Kim Kardashian Is a "Trashier" Version of Kate Middleton

Ricky Gervais: Kim Kardashian Is a "Trashier" Version of Kate Middleton

According to Ricky Gervais, the queen of reality TV is no match for the future Queen of England.

In his scathing opening monologue (just like last year's!) at Sunday's Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, the British comic didn't pull any punches.

PHOTOS: What all the stars wore at the Golden Globes

"The Golden Globes are just like the Oscars but without all that esteem," Gervais began, then bringing up the most talked-about women of 2011 to make his point.

"The Golden Globes are to the Oscars what Kim Kardashian is to Kate Middleton," he cracked as the star-packed audience giggled. "A bit louder. A bit trashier. A bit drunker and more easily bought -- allegedly!"

    PHOTOS: Kim Kardashian's terrible year

"Who needs the Oscars? Not me," Gervais continued. "And not Eddie Murphy. He walked out on that," he said of Murphy, who famously accepted and then nixed his gig hosting the upcoming Academy Awards. "But when the man who said yes to Norbit says no to you..."

    PHOTOS: The year in royals

Rattling off his "rules" this year to appease the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (and the censors), Gervais read a list. "No profanity. No nudity. That's a shame because I've got a huge...vocabulary. But a tiny penis! And I mustn't mention Mel Gibson, his private life, his politics...and especialy not Jodie Foster's Beaver," he said of the Foster-directed flick starring Foster, 49, who giggled at her table. "I haven't seen it myself!"

Best host of an awards show were Bob Hope and Johnny Carson (The Oscars)--very witty; never crass, just a heap of class. If you weren't around when they were, you really missed witnessing what being a host is all about. First cabin all the way.

One, times change. This is the way of the world.

Two, I had no idea Bob Hope and Johnny Carson were one person.

Or did you mean, the best HOSTS. When speaking about two (2) people, you should pluralize the word. This is what they teach in English class, in school.

I agree with Bertiesbath. Carson and Hope were both the epitome of class. Why in today's world it is necessary to be obscene, insulting and ignorant to be funny is beyond me. Another of my award show favourites is Ellen Degeneris.

One day Kim gets out of a party saying "I am not the mother of all the lawyers!". Soon after a guy came out trying to calm things down and says "I did not meant to offend you. All I said was that all lawyers are sons of a bitch!"

The difference between Kim and Kate ....Kim has been and most likely will always be a negative to society ...Kate will help the sick and poor because she is smart enough to know she can

        correct perfectly said!!!

No, Kate will help the sick and poor to get people to like her. It seems that her plans have worked so far. That's how the royal family can keep poor citizens pay the royals with their hard-earned cash. If you don't like my comment, then you are not seeking the truth.

Ricky Gervais is comedy royalty right up there with John Cleese at this point. Much of his comedy is also very self-deprecating, so when I hear people calling him arrogant I can only assume they're not familiar with his body of work. Their loss. Politically correct comedy is an oxymoron.

I don't care about the Kardashians but you people realize that your negative comments actually indirectly benefits them, right? That's how they make money; they are attention seekers just like lady gaga, beiber, and the rest of them. They are millionaires because people gave these talentless celebrities the attention they asked for.

This year's Golden Globes was excellent, partly do to the comic genius of Ricky Gervais. The audience appeared to love his witty jokes which persons should not take so seriously -look at the risky humour on most of the prime time tv comedy shows. The gowns & tuxedos were beautiful; nice to see Brad and Angelina there and they truly appeared to love the show and the humour. It was a fast paced, fun show; wished they had an "in memorium" segment but I guess this is only done at The Oscars and The Emmys - hooray to Modern Family!!!
