Whitney Houston Dead at 48
Music superstar Whitney Houston is dead. She was 48 years old.
Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California where she was a guest, Beverly Hills Police lieutenant Mark Rosen confirmed in a briefing. Police received a call at 3:43 p.m. from hotel security -- and Beverly Hills fire and police, who were already on the scene at the hotel due to the pre-Grammy event taking place later in the evening -- responded minutes later. Upon arrival, first responders discovered Whitney Houston "unresponsive." They initiated CPR, but attempts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.
The cause of death is unknown, and is currently under investigation. According to Rosen, there was "no obvious evidence of foul play or cause of death."
Houston was positively identified at the scene by members of her entourage which included friends, co-workers and family. Houston's daughter Bobbi Kristina with ex-husband Bobby Brown, as well as her mother, were both notified of her death, the Beverly Hills Police Department said.

Often referred to as the "Queen of Pop" or "the Voice," Houston is a six-time Grammy winner and the most awarded female act of all time, though her career was overshadowed in the later years with her rumored drug use.
