LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- It appears The Vatican is neither Team Jacob nor Team Edward!

Critics are divided, Twi-hards are excited, but the Vatican is reportedly condemning "The Twilight Saga: New Moon," claiming the vampire and werewolf-filled movie is "deviant."

"This theme of vampires in 'Twilight' combines a mixture of excesses that, as ever is aimed at young people and gives a heavy esoteric element," Monsignor Franco Perazzolo, the Vatican's culture council leader, said in a statement on Thursday, according to Britain's Daily Mail.

Monsignor Perazzolo reportedly said the latest installment in the "Twilight" franchise is delivering the wrong message to audiences.

"This film is nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message and as such should be of concern," he continued.

Monsignor Perazzolo did not clarify in his statement if he had seen an advance copy of "New Moon,' attended a midnight screening with Twi-hards or if he had even actually seen the movie.

Condemnation or not, eager fans appeared to unfazed by the Monsignor's warnings. As previously reportedly on AccessHollywood.com, "New Moon" pulled in an astounding estimated gross of $26.27 million at midnight screenings early Friday morning.

The Vatican Monsignor has no idea what he's talking about. He's clearly never seen New Moon. Unless you have watched it unbiased and can still say that, then shut the hell up. This is one of many reasons why I left the catholic church.

opinions are like buttholes everyone has one. the church can say what it wants, doesn't mean i have to listen to them and obey. who really cares. it's just a story and those who personally try to live out the twilight scenario are obviously crazed. it's no biggie. just enjoy the story for what it's worth and forget the rest

This grand announcement from a religion who condones child sexual abuse by it's priests. The fact that they can still hold their head up and make these bold statements is a moral vaccuum with a deviant message. Plus, the wasn't this guy (the pope) a Nazi before he found catholicism. Crazy.

Haha, silly Christians. They still think people actually give a %@!*# what they think about anything. :) I don't know anything about Twilight, other than it makes stupid teenage girls wet their pants. But if the Christians are afraid of it, it gets my two thumbs up.
