Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal never ended up getting married, the actress' rep tells Usmagazine.com.

In a 20/20 interview (airing tonight), O'Neal tells Barbara Walters that Fawcett "agreed" to marry him before her death. (The two - who began dating in 1980 - have a son, Redmond, 24, who is currently serving a prison term in California after repeated drug offenses.)

"I promise you, we will," he tells Walters. "Absolutely."

Take a look back at the life of Farrah Fawcett

After Fawcett died of cancer at age 62 Thursday, O'Neal - who was by her side at Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, Calif. - told Usmagazine.com: "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."

To Ryan, Red, Farrah's Family & Friends~ I'm extremely saddened by Farrah's death. Never did I know she was a person of such great strength and courage. Her willingness to share her illness with the world gives a whole new Awareness of cancer. Farrah's in a much better place now. As God is our Savior and Heavenly Father, we will see her Again. Many Blessing

I am very sad that Farrah had tp pass on this way. However, she demonstrates to the world what a courageous soul she truly was and still is in our memories. She was a very special soft, sweet and strong illuminating light that the world was blessed by her spirit presence. In memory of a very endearing and courageous soul. Respectfully, Sandra P. Jardine

I feel badly for Ryan and their son. Her death has been overshadowed by Michael Jackson's sudden death. At least her suffering is over now.

Yes Farrah, you truly are an angel now. No more suffering, you're walking on sunshine, through fields of clover, on streets of gold, and hand in hand of Jesus. Truly in better shape than most of us back here in our mortal bodies, as we know them. So God Bless You Farrah in your journey. You've taught us so much, and we are forever grateful.
