Ratings: Mad Men Premiere Delivers Series High
It looks like that 17-month-long hiatus was worth the wait.
Mad Men's two-hour Season 5 premiere Sunday drew a series-record high of 3.5 million viewers, up 21 percent from the previous record and Season 4 premiere, which drew 2.9 million.

"Mad Men set the bar high and we are incredibly proud that it continues to engage audiences looking for unexpected, unconventional and uncompromising television," Charlie Collier, AMC's president, said in a statement. "For each of the five Mad Men seasons Matthew Weiner and his team have crafted a beautifully told story and each season a larger audience has responded; a rare accomplishment. We couldn't be more proud of this program, the brilliant writers, cast and crew, and the entire team on each side of the camera."

The episode also attracted 1.6 million viewers in the adults 18-to-49 demographic (up 30 percent from the Season 4 opener) and 1.7 million in the adults 25-to-54 demo (up 17 percent).
Mad Men's success comes a week after The Walking Dead closed its second season to record ratings.
